PREPARATION The day before your procedure you will be on a clear liquid diet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. These clear liquids include: All juices (except tomato, orange juice or V8), Jell-O, Popsicles, soft drinks, coffee, tea, chicken or beef broth/bouillon, water or sports drinks. YOU MAY NOT HAVE SOLID FOODS, MILK PRODUCTS OR ANYTHING RED.
Follow the directions given to you by the office staff for your prep based upon the type of prep prescribed to you. If you have any questions regarding your prep instructions, contact our office.
If you develop nausea, stop drinking the solution for about 30 minutes or an hour, and then sip it slowly. You may suck on hard candies (no red!) to change the taste.
You will need to be off of any blood thinning medications at least 5 days prior to your procedure. Check with your primary care or prescribing doctor for any medications that you are not sure about.
You are to eat or drink nothing after midnight and nothing the morning of your procedure. Any heart, blood pressure or seizure medication may be taken the morning of your procedure with a small sip of water.
If you are a diabetic, please consult with your primary doctor regarding your fasting times.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE Dr. Monga will speak to your family after the procedure is done and generally speaks with you as well. You will probably not remember this due to the medications you were given during the procedure.
You may feel full and bloated when you wake up due to the air that was put into your colon during the procedure. This feeling will usually pass within an hour or two.
When you are awake and alert the nurses will let you leave with someone. Remember, you will not be released to drive/go home by your self. Someone must be there to drive you home.
Unless you have been instructed otherwise, you may resume any normal activities you feel up to. If a biopsy was performed, we will let you know the results within five to seven business days.
If you have severe abdominal pain, fever or if you pass more than 1 tablespoon of blood, please contact the office. |
